Biographical sketch

Andrea’s passion for two wheels came from his father, Antonio. “I made a bet with my father when I was very young. I said that if he took the stabiliser wheels off my bicycle and I didn’t fall down, would buy me a motorcycle for me”. Andrea won the bet, and papa Antonio gave Andrea a red Malaguti motocrosser to ride. “My father never pushed me into riding motorcycles”, says Andrea, “but soon they began to be my all consuming passion”.
Until the age of 14 Andrea always raced minimotos, motocross and also played football. “Pretty soon though, I had chosen to be at the race track. It was my biggest passion”.
At the beginning with Andrea racing minibikes, he showed immediately that he was a talented rider. He was able to win two national titles and score many podiums. More importantly than this, in 2000 he won his first championship on a 125cc bike in the Aprilia Challenge Championship. This was one success that Dovi still considers very significant, as this was his first title riding a ‘real’ motorcycle.
In 2001 he first enjoyed his first taste of world championship action, but in the same year he also won the European 125cc GP title.
His career in GPs continued and resulted in the 2004 125cc World Championship with Honda Team Scot. For 2005 Andrea and the Team moved up to the quarter-litre class on a Honda RS250RW and once more Andrea’s style and speed was impressive and he took third overall in the championship in his debut year.
In 2006 and 2007 once more with Honda and Team Scot he secured second in the championship in both seasons, displaying courage, tenacity and a rider maturity beyond his years.
And now for the “big jump” into the MotoGP class for 2008. With the faithful Team Scot behind him as well as Japanese motorcycle manufacturer Honda and HRC Andrea and the Team hope for more success.
